Bullying &Autism Spectrum Disorders Why it Happens and What to Do

  • 15 May 2014
  • 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
  • SERESC Conference Center, Bedford, NH

Presented by Teresa Bolick, Ph.D., this is an advanced workshop for special educators, psychologists, counselors, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, school administrators, and family members.

Although we don’t have precise statistics, there are many reports indicating the individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are more likely to be bullied than their typically developing peers. And, while many hesitate to discuss it openly, individuals with ASDs can inadvertently show bullying behavior.

This workshop will address questions such as:

  • What are the characteristics that put an individual with ASD at risk for victimization?
  • What factors might lead a person with ASD to engage in bullying behavior?
  • What about cyberbullying and ASD?
  • How can families, communities, and schools tackle the problem of bullying and ASD?
