NHSCA Graduate Student Scholarship and School Counselor of the Year Awards Information 

Jo Hayslip Memorial Scholarship

Once again, the New Hampshire School Counselor Association is offering a $2,000 scholarship to a student member of the New Hampshire School Counselor Association completing his or her final year of graduate course work. This scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates academic success, a vision for school counseling practice, and financial need. The scholarship is in memory of Jo Hayslip, Professor Emeritus at Plymouth State University. Dr. Hayslip was a leading force in current school counselor practices, including comprehensive guidance, and was active at the local, regional and national level.

The deadline for the $2,000.00 scholarship is November 15, 2016. The packet should include the following items:


  1. Statement that the applicant is:


  1. A matriculated graduate student and a New Hampshire resident in a New Hampshire state certified School Counseling Program


  1. A student member of NHSCA


  1. In the final year of his or her graduate program


  1. Statement of financial need


  1. Work resume


  1. Statement describing your vision of the way you will practice as a school counselor (one page minimum)


  1. Transcript (unofficial is acceptable) of graduate course work to date

NH School Counselor of the Year Awards

In conjunction with the N.H. Excellence in Education Awards, NHSCA will continue to honor one outstanding school counselor for prestigious recognition.

The award recipient will receive:

  • An award presentation at the recipient’s school
  • A feature article in the NHSCA newsletter
  • Recognition at The “ED”ies (N.H. Excellence in Education Awards) in June

Applications must be submitted by January 30, 2017.
